Chosing the right show - if you have a choice of shows serving the same industry, here are 5 questions to ask that will help you make the right decision:
1. are they members of EXSA Exhibition Association of Southern Africa, who have strict conditions of membership
2. is the show sponsored by the relevant trade association/s
3. how long have the Exhibition Organisers been in business, how many shows have they organised and how many are still running
4. has this exhibition been held before and how many exhibitors and visitors have attended each year
5. what promotions are the Organisers planning, to attract the buyers and prospects you need.
Junior stand staff - if you use junior staff on your stand, you will attract junior visitors because people deal with people they like, people with whom they have things in common. Its a great idea to give management real roles to play on your stand. These tips are covered in the 'Successful stand staff' workshops.
More value from visiting a trade show - the most common reason for visiting a trade show is to see whats new. To gain more value from visiting a trade show, set some objectives:
1. to find 3 ways to improve production
2. to find at least one new product or service that you could sell
3. to find 3 new agents or distributors
4. to network with industry personalities to determine trends and directions for your business
5. to identify your 3 main competitors and determine their range and pricing. Consider their strengths and weaknesses
6. find 3 new suppliers
7. to compare products that you have purchased and check pricing and service
8. to see what products are being sold regionally or Internationally with a view to expansion
9. to check out companies who have submitted quotes/tenders
10. to get ideas on how you could exhibit better - check out stands and promotions
